This is abosutely 100% what I believe as well. Dr. David Hawkins (The eye of the I, Power vs. Force etc) describes it very similarly. Once we have experienced a state of bliss, we will do whatever we can to re-enter this state. In this state of bliss we experience our true Self. Alcohol and drugs help us to achieve these states only for a short while by suppressing lower energy fields; alcohol and drugs by themselves do not have the power to get you to the state of bliss, but are a conducter of suppressing the negative energies which stand between my natural state of the Self and the unnatural state of ego consciousness. However, alcohol and drugs are external means and therefore only work for a short time, then turn on us and drag us down, while some of us continue to chase our natural state.
I have experienced addiction first hand in my life and the only way I have found made alcohol and drugs not required anymore in my life is the path of discovering who I truely am, an eternal soul and spirit, a holographic reflection of the Source who has digressed into material existance to relearn the lessons of love, compassion and non-judgement. I am extremely joyful and free today, knowing that who I truely am will never cease to exist; thank you addictions for showing me the way.
