Your home has become a trash can.  The trash is clutter.  Clutter is anything that no longer supports you.  Anything can be clutter. Anything. Clothes, electronics, books, people, and activities are clutter if they no longer suit you. When there is clutter in your home, the effect of the disorder is chaos.  It affects your peace of mind, health and relationships.

I’m an expert in clutter busting. For nine years, I’ve been going into people’s homes and helping them let go of the clutter in their lives. I’d like to share some insights from the world of clutter and let you know how to get out of that world and into one of clarity.

Thriving on Less – Focus on the Essentials

The first step in simplifying, and living with less, is to identify the essential – that which you want to keep in your life. Then eliminate as much of the non- essential as possible.

I go into much more detail on this process in The Power of Less (please buy it to read more on all these topics – see, but basically you want to create a Short List of 4-5 things in your life that you value most – people you love or things you’re passionate about, things you want in your life. These are your essentials.

Will Holiday Habits Set You Back for 2009?

You are an accumulation of your habits. From how you get out of bed, how you shower, how you dress, how you shop for food and eat meals, how you exercise, how you walk, sit, and talk, how you respond to the world, how you act in front of others, and how you think; you are living out your habits.

Habits are necessary. Because they typically come naturally and automatically (“through habit”), they free up your mind so you can concentrate on how to survive day to day. You don’t have to think about how to drive your car so you can be on the lookout for danger while you are driving. You don’t have to think about how to walk so you can concentrate on where you’re going.

Good Intentions Need To Be Followed By Good Actions

Good intentions are wonderful. It is fantastic to have good intentions in life. They are a brilliant starting block and you can leap ahead from your good intentions and make powerful moves in life. The problem is that intention is not a solitary  concept, it has a best pal and they work really well together. That crucial comrade is called action and good actions should naturally spring from good intentions. If they do not, the good intentions were futile.

Having good intentions without the subsequent good actions is…well, a bit lazy to be honest. It is one big cop out. It means you can have all the good intentions in the world without ever really having to take any responsibility.
