It may come as a surprise to you that you are attached to everything you desire. Behind every desire there is a dissatisfaction and resistance to what is and as the saying goes, “whatever you resist persists”. Your very desire forces you to focus on the absence in your life of that which you want and so paradoxically keeps it away from you. By desiring nothing, you are attached to nothing, and so allow yourself to create the reality of your choice knowing that you are free to choose any experience. Desire is the source of all attachment whereas choice is the gift of detachment.
Step 2 – Change Your Perception and the Experience Changes
You can easily change your perception when you recognize the fact that you made it up in the first instance based on your beliefs and past experiences. In a relaxed state with your eyes closed, create a mental image in your mind of a negative experience you wish to neutralize.
Neutrally observe yourself experiencing the specific event, how it started, how you felt, where it took place, why it was negative for you and how you reacted. As you continue to neutrally observe the scene unfolding through to its end, see how your beliefs about life and yourself made you perceive the experience as negative.
Detachment from your desired outcome is vital to creating your ideal reality. To be attached to your desires is to live in the fear that they will not materialize and traps you in a continuous state of desire. Attachment to any thing or any one turns love into fear and belief into doubt. Faith allows you to detach yourself from the outcome and transforms your desires into your choice.
Attachment is Giving Away Your Power
The instant you attach yourself to a specific person’s actions or words or to a certain outcome, you give your power away to external forces and circumstances. In effect, you give away your power to create your own reality.
1. Take responsibility for your internal experience
With the ego seemingly always enveloping our deeper essence it can be so challenging to actually “be the change you wish to see in the world”. We all know that we need to “be the change” but how with all the programming and challenges we face do we actually do this?
The answer: have a personal goal to take responsibility for your internal experience and love yourself for who you are. This one step, if taken by all, will build more trust, love and compassion than any other. This one step is powerful enough to shift everything toward paradise quickly yet with grace.
