Anxiety is no longer the condition that it once was. While severe anxiety still requires some type of intervention, most anxiety can be cured using treatments that do not require a medical or office visit. There are many effective ways to manage anxiety, and if you make smart decisions you can control your anxiety now.

When to Seek Help

This does not mean that you shouldn’t seek help from professionals. There are times when a local therapist or counselor is still valuable, especially if:

  • You can afford it.
  • There is someone in your area you like.
  • You’ve exhausted other options.

People downplay the benefits of therapy often, but the truth is that psychology is an advanced field, and treatments really are both possible and available to those that need it.

But as usual, why go through the therapeutic process if there are potentially ways to manage your anxiety at home? Below are natural, drug free ways to combat anxiety and possibly prevent it from coming back.

How to Stop Anxiety

  • Jog/Exercise

There is genuinely no better way to cure anxiety at home than to start exercising, especially jogging for 30 minutes a day. Jogging isn’t just a tool to improve your physical health. It’s something that is known to release endorphins that improve mood, reduce the availability of stress hormones, prevent severe anxiety symptoms, and more. It even has secondary benefits for anxiety, like being a relaxing activity that takes your mind off your stresses. If you do nothing else, you need to start exercising as best you can.

  • Take Magnesium

Magnesium isn’t a cure for anxiety. But it might be a forgotten cause of some of the most distressing anxiety symptoms, especially if you have panic disorder. Check your overall magnesium levels in your diet. A surprising amount of people are deficient, and that deficiency can lead to a host of very strange physical symptoms that may increase your overall anxiety. Start eating foods with a higher magnesium content and talk to your doctor about magnesium supplements, as these may give you some relief.

  • Kava and Herbal Remedies

It’s not just prescription medications that should be used as a last resort. Even herbal medicine for anxiety should be avoided as best you can, since you want to be able to fight your anxiety in a way that you can maintain for the rest of your life. You don’t want to take herbal supplements forever, so use them only when you’ve tried other options.

That said, kava, passionflower, and valerian root are all believed to be very effective for fighting anxiety, and are generally side effect free. They are something worth considering if you want to take the natural route for anxiety relief.

  • Mantra Meditation

Mantra meditation is often highly recommended as a form of anxiety relief. Experts believe that this type of meditation centers you spiritually, and gets you in touch with yourself.

But what you won’t hear these experts say is that even if mantra meditation has none of those benefits, it can still be very valuable. Mantras (which are sounds like “Om” said for a long period of time) can make it harder to focus on anxious thoughts, and overloads the senses in such a way that you receive a distraction from some of your anxiety symptoms. Furthermore, in order to make mantras you need to slow down your breathing. Studies have shown that fast breathing with anxiety results in many of anxiety’s worst symptoms.

So whether you follow the spiritual beliefs in mantra meditation or not, there are still many reasons to consider integrating it into your daily life.

Treating Your Anxiety Without Medication

Anxiety medications are not as terrible as some make them out to be. But the reason to avoid taking them isn’t just the side effects – it’s also because you should not and cannot take these medications the rest of your life. You need to learn new coping tools to help you deal with your anxiety, and that means fighting your anxiety at home long before you see a doctor – or even a psychologist.

The above tools will help you get started, and if you also look for other healthy ways to cut back on anxiety producing events in your life, you may experience enough relief that you don’t need either medications or therapy, and can live a happy and great life anxiety free.

    If anxiety is reduced at home and office most of the health problems that the present generations facing shall reduce, anxiety is mainly due to ignorance and imbalance of the emotions and feelings, which raise due to the present day of working atmosphere. Only the remedy for this is by improving living conditions by doing some exercise, yoga along with meditations, that is giving some time for improving our own self living conditions along with good food which is rich in vitamins and good calories of balanced diet. If people do start now it takes some time to have it’s effect, once good health is there by shedding the ignorance one can reduce the stress and strain on the body.
